When we look at a painting in a museum our focus is most often on the image and fewer consider what lies beneath: a canvas, a textile.
Research in Lab O is focussed on historical canvases as seen in x-ray images.
I analyse the pattern and weave a reconstruction.
My aim is to contribute to preserve, in Technical Painting Art History, the knowledge about which patterns were used.
It might answer the questions of why Old Masters used these patterned canvases and where and how they were made.
